Last night we were delighted to host a reception at the Merchants’ Hall attended by HRH The Princess Royal to launch the new Merchant Company Endowments Trust Community Grants Scheme.
The purpose of the Community Grant Scheme is to increase the charitable offering provided by the Merchant Company Endowments Trust. This has been achieved by widening the remit of the Trust to include charitable giving to organisations and groups as well as individuals.
The sectors from which we will invite applications include: Social needs; youth; the elderly; education; environment; social enterprise; healthcare; sport; culture and the arts; and projects that will be of general benefit to Edinburgh and its economic environment. Preference will be given to projects for which our contribution will be a real needle mover – perhaps even the difference between something happening or not.
The aim is to distribute grants to small constituted or not-for-profit groups who wish to undertake projects which fit in with the Merchant Company’s aims and ethos.
We are engaging the help of a not-for-profit community foundation to undertake administration and due diligence.
Further details regarding eligibility and the process for applications for the first round of grants will be announced towards the end of the summer on the Merchant Company website.
