On Friday 8 November 2019 Mr Peter Hillier was confirmed as the 266th Master of the Royal Company of Merchants at the Kirking of the Master service in St Giles Cathedral.
Peter Hillier is a Director of Cazenove Capital Management, part of Schroders Group plc, and Head of the Edinburgh Office. He is Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, a Burgess of the City of Edinburgh, and a member of the Court of Cardiff University. He is a member of the Institute of Directors and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.
The new Master processed up the High Street to St Giles with the members of his Court before entering the packed cathedral.
The service was conducted by Rev Calum MacLeod, Minister of St Giles and Rev Charles Robertson, the Royal Company of Merchants Chaplain.
Choral music was sung beautifully by the George Watson’s Chamber Choir. The values of service to the community and charitable works were very present in this stirring start to the new Master’s two years in office.
